Belated Thankful Thursday from January 7th

Two posts in one day? It’s unheard of, folks!  Since I finished my Christmas posts, I wanted to do one of the updates that I missed the most—my Thankful Thursday posts (errrr…a day late)!  I like these most because it allows for me to ramble as I used to in my dear old lj days (Livejournal for you young ones).  This was my first week back at work, and the students aren’t back yet so I’m most thankful I’ve been able to slowly ease back into the 8 to 5 routine.  I’m missing spending every day at home with the kitties, but until I win the Powerball, I can’t be a stay at home cat mom.  Here’s what I’m thankful for this week.—

  • Bubble Tea in Jonesboro—I tried this many years ago in Colombia, Missouri, and I’ve never been ever to find it anywhere nearby until now! One of my students let me know that Chin Chin Express carries it. I went in to check out their bubble tea and sushi this week, and it was great!  I can’t remember which roll I ordered, but it was pretty good.  Full disclosure, it’s not the best sushi I have ever had, but for the price, it’s good.  It’s like grocery store sushi.  Nothing glamorous, but it’ll work for the price and convenience.  I got the Lavender Bubble Tea, and it’s as amazing as I remembered!

    • Out with the old!—I’m so proud of my husband for getting rid of his old pan that I’m pretty sure was giving one or both of us future cancer. Sometimes it can be hard to part with stuff, but it is so freeing to have less to own you. That’s what ends up happening, I swear.  Anyway, I’ll throw stuff away on a whim, but it’s a little bit harder for Kelly so I’m so pleased to see him really organizing and paring down in the new year.  We take photos of him with his favorite items that have served him well over the years to lessen the sting.  If I could write a little ode to this one it would be, “While I was sure you were going to poison me one day, you faithfully worked with my dreamy boyfriend (now husband) to prepare his signature dish, Rice Sides with random meat cut up in it, many times for me.  For that, I am grateful, and we thank you for your service.”

        • Good books—Did you get books for Christmas? Did you pour through pages over the holidays? If so, please feel free to pass on any recommendations. I got Diane von Furstenberg’s The Woman I Wanted to Be. I love reading any books about fashion, but I really like reading about where Diane came from.  She shares a lot of her history and her mother’s life story, and it’s interesting.  It shows how one can lead a passionate life, but it also sheds some light on how much you have to want it and how hard you have to work for it.  Her life is fascinating, but her mother, man!  There’s the real story.  I’d love to read a book on her!
        • Good television—Downton Abbey is back guys, and I’m so excited to see how the final season plays out! Also, Kelly and I have joined the thousands of other’s currently obsessively watching Making of a Murderer on Netflix. We’re finishing up the final episodes tonight, and then, I can’t wait to scour the internet for all the articles I’ve avoided reading in the last week!  It’s really great, and if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, you should.  I’m not usually one who enjoys the tastes of the masses because I can be kind of a snob sometimes, but seriously, this documentary is addictive.
      • To die for hot chocolate—Recently, I’ve been craving the chocolate we had out in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I’ve been daydreaming and longing for a mug of Aztec Hot Chocolate with a good dose of fire and spice to it. While googling for years, I saw someone comment that Abuelita Hot Chocolate was somewhat comparable and good.  I knew I’d seen it at the grocery store so I bought a box to try out. I’m only too sad my fat arse didn’t discover this years ago.  It’s the best hot chocolate I’ve ever  had!  I like to add a couple of generous sprinkles of cayenne to mine to turn it up.  I’ve been drinking a mug every night.  If you haven’t tried it, what are you waiting for?  It can soothe feelings and make your life better!  Okay, maybe not all that, but it can improve your evening, anyway.
